In 2025, Bashkortostan took 7th place in the ranking of Russian regions by the number of admitted international students. Svetlana Mustafina, Head of the State Committee of the Republic of Bashkortostan for Science and Higher Education, announced this at an operational government meeting on Monday. According to her, more than 9 000 citizens from 50 countries are currently studying in the republic, accounting for 9 %of the total student population.

It is worth noting that Bashkir State Medical University is a “large university” with 15 000 students, 5 000 of whom are international. Today, students from 64 countries are enrolled at BSMU. The geography of applicants is constantly expanding: this year, students from Botswana, São Tomé and Príncipe, Sierra Leone, Togo, the Comoros, as well as from CIS countries -Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan - have joined the university.

The university is a leader in the medical education market in India, Africa and the Middle East. Every year, more than 250 graduates obtain Russian citizenship and stay to work in the country’s healthcare system.
